This agency for a number of years, has felt strongly that the existing travel insurance programs were not in a sportsman's best interests. As you may know, Butch was a litigation attorney for many years and his reading of the existing policy's available did not please him-so we refused to sell any of it.
Recently Butch has been working with a leading travel insurer on perfecting a policy that would more closely relate to the special needs of hunters and fishermen. Butch has made a number of suggestions, and the insurer has shown a willingness to work with him with a view toward offering a product that really had merit. This new insurance is called Sportsman's Travel, and in our opinion, you absolutely should be considering this for every trip you book. Costs have been seriously reduced, coverage seriously increased, provisions unique for sportsmen included, and the result is that for a modest price you get some serious protections. To help you, Butch has summarized the provisions here for our clients. Of course, the policy always controls. We will walk you through the process and costs, we will prepare your application for you and we will actually get the policy for you. Just call or email us to book it!!
Trip cancellation and interruption is provided. Assuming you book the insurance within 15 days of our receipt of your deposit for you trip, if your heart condition suddenly worsens; your spouse or child or parent suffers an illness or accident or condition necessitating cancellation- they reimburse you for the full trip price; your airfares; your licenses! Again- must book and pay the insurance within the 15 day rule. You purchase enough insurance to cover the hunt price, the plane fares and your licenses. Sample cost: A $3000 hunt; $300 air fare; $190 license: $153 cost !!
- Above coverage also applies if your trip is interrupted for the above reasons.
- Covers weather cancellations/interruptions to limits of policy. Pays $100/day toward delay
costs.
- Covers bankruptcy or default- eg: Your outfitter fails to show or goes bust.
- Gives you an additional $25,000 in medical expense coverage. So if your own medical
insurance does not cover you or fails to fully cover your costs, then this plan steps in to the $25,000 limit.
- Plan pays up to $300,000 to evacuate you in an emergency to nearest quality hospital facility.
- Pays up to $2500 toward loss of equipment or personal items, including guns (max of $1000 for
first item). Pays $200 toward replacement rental of guns etc.
- Gives you 24 hour travel assistance and services, including helping family members to figure
out how to get to you or contact you.
As with any insurance, there are "loopholes", but all in all this is a good policy with valuable protections. Also, they have put in writing that they are pro-sportsmen, and will promptly resolve any and all claims. We think that is important also. Costs vary with age slightly-but for 35-59 years: coverage of $5,000 (hunt price, plane and licenses) is $219; $8000 is $379; $10,000 is $441 and so on. We think a few hundred dollars to prevent a huge unforeseen loss is truly worthwhile. Call us to arrange it.
